What You Will Learn
The Natal Chart Reading course is our foundational programme, designed to take you from first principles to confident chart interpretation over eight structured weeks. You will begin by understanding the astronomical basis of Jyotish: how the sidereal zodiac differs from the tropical system, why the Moon holds such prominence in Vedic astrology, and how the Ascendant (Lagna) anchors the entire horoscope.
From there, you will study each of the twelve houses (Bhavas) in detail, learning what areas of life they govern, how planetary occupation and lordship modify their expression, and how to identify strengths and weaknesses within any given chart. The nine Grahas are explored individually, covering their natural significations, directional strengths, exaltation and debilitation points, and the way they behave as benefics or malefics depending on their role for a particular Ascendant.
By the midpoint of the course, you will be reading the Rashi chart with increasing fluency. The final modules introduce Nakshatra analysis, planetary aspects, and the role of retrograde planets, giving you a holistic toolkit for understanding any birth chart placed before you.
Course Structure
The programme spans eight weeks, with each week comprising a ninety-minute pre-recorded lecture, supplementary reading materials drawn from Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, and a live forty-five-minute Q&A session with the instructor. Practical assignments are issued every fortnight, requiring you to analyse real charts and submit written interpretations for personalised feedback.
- Weeks 1-2: Foundations of the sidereal zodiac, the twelve signs, and the Ascendant
- Weeks 3-4: The twelve houses and their significations in Parashari Jyotish
- Weeks 5-6: The nine planets, dignities, aspects, and retrograde motion
- Weeks 7-8: Nakshatra basics, chart synthesis, and practical case studies
Who This Course Is For
This course is ideal for absolute beginners who have never studied astrology before, as well as students of Western astrology who wish to learn the Vedic system from scratch. It also serves as a valuable refresher for intermediate practitioners who want to solidify their foundational knowledge before moving on to predictive or remedial studies. No prior knowledge of Sanskrit, astronomy, or mathematics is required; all technical terms are explained in context and reinforced through practical exercises.
Over the past fifteen years, our Natal Chart Reading programme has been completed by more than eight hundred students spanning thirty-four countries, making it our most popular offering. Graduates frequently cite the clarity of instruction and the practical emphasis as the two qualities that set this programme apart.
What Graduates Say
"I enrolled with no background in Jyotish and, by week four, I was reading charts for friends and family with genuine confidence. The structured approach made all the difference." — Priya Menon, Professional Astrologer, Mumbai
"Coming from Western astrology, I expected overlap, but the Vedic perspective opened entirely new dimensions. The house and Nakshatra modules were revelatory." — David Llewellyn, Student, United Kingdom
Upon completion, you will receive a signed certificate from Academy Jyotish and lifetime access to all course materials, including future updates.
